How to Use Google Business Profile Photos to Get More Customers

|Cody Stone

Google Business Profile photos are one of the most underutilized tools in local business marketing. Businesses with photos on their Google listings receive 42% more requests for directions and 35% more website clicks than businesses without photos. Yet most local businesses have fewer than five photos — often blurry or outdated ones. Here's how to use photos strategically to win more customers.

Why Photos Matter So Much

When someone finds your business in Google Maps, photos are often the first thing they examine after your name and rating. Photos answer the subconscious questions every potential customer has: Does this place look professional? Does the work look quality? Are these real people I can trust? Does this match what I'm looking for? A business with 30+ high-quality, recent photos signals activity, professionalism, and confidence in ways that text descriptions cannot.

The Photos Every Local Business Needs

  • Exterior photos: Multiple angles showing your signage, entrance, and surroundings so customers can find you easily. Update these seasonally.
  • Interior photos: Your workspace, waiting area, or facility — clean, well-lit, and representative of the experience customers will have.
  • Team photos: Real people who work there. A smiling team photo humanizes your business and builds trust before the first visit.
  • Work photos: Before-and-afters, finished jobs, completed projects. This is your visual portfolio — show your best work consistently.
  • Product photos: If you sell products, photograph them well. Natural light, clean background, multiple angles.

Photo Quality Basics

You do not need a professional photographer. Modern smartphones take excellent photos when used correctly. Key principles: shoot in natural light whenever possible, clean and organize the area before shooting, use horizontal orientation for most photos, take multiple shots and choose the best, and avoid heavy filters that make photos look artificial.

How Often to Add Photos

Google favors active profiles. Adding new photos consistently — at least two to four per month — signals that your business is active and engaged. Every significant job completion is a photo opportunity. Every team addition is a photo. Every seasonal change to your space is a photo. Build this habit and your profile will accumulate a rich visual history that impresses every new visitor.
